Girls Sectional Results  ... I have posted results of all girls sectional class meets off the Results page ... with the exception of the C-2 meet (where I typed the results into my computer at the meet), all results are taken directly from local newspapers ... Boys Sectional Results

Girls C-2 Sectional Championships (Thur. May 24, 2001) ... Meet Results
West Canada Valley High School hosted the meet for 13 teams to decide sectional class C-2 honors for the girls. The weather was decent except for a cool breeze. I have posted meet results off the Results page. The Tully girls repeated as the Class C-2 team champion by scoring 147 points ... West Canada Valley was second (94 points) and Beaver River was third (74 points). Tully had only individual winners (Liz Jones in the 100m dash and Amy Libby in the pentathlon), but the deep and balanced team scored points in most events. I have posted some meet photos.

Jennifer Galvin (Fabius-Pompey) was the individual star of the meet as she won four events ... 100 hurdles (16.4), 400m hurdles (64.4), 200m dash (26.4) and discus (96' 0") ... the 400m hurdle race was especially impressive as she started out very fast and remained strong all the way to the finish.  Jessica Portmess (Tully) also set a PR in the 400m hurdles (66.8) despite stutter-stepping many hurdles ... in addition, Jessica was 2nd in the open 400m (61.0), 3rd in the 1500m (5:14.6) and 5th in the triple jump (30' 7.5").

The Beaver River distance runners continue to be impressive. Julie Emery and Lauren Mosher ran one-two in the 3000m (10:45 & 10:50), Adrienne Gagnier won the 1500m (5:00.6) and Danielle Buzzell won the 800m (2:24.7).

Sectional Girls Class C/D Steeplechase (May 23, 2001) ... A total field of 11 runners came to Canastota's new track facility to contest the Sectional Class C-1, C-2 and D girls steeplechase. All runners competed in a single race due to the small number of runners ... Lauren Noble was an easy winner in 7:44.8; Lauren's hurdling ability has improved a lot from her initial steeplechase effort earlier in the season ... the overall order of finish was: (1) Lauren Noble (Little Falls, 7:44.8), (2) Mary Schachtler (Westmoreland, 8:17.9), (3) Annie Rienhardt (Tully, 8:33.2), (4) Susanne Dougherty (West Canada, 8:37.1), (5) Brianna Seeley (Tully, 8:47.4), (6) Julianna Bialek (Faith Heritage, 9:01.1), (7) Kate Monahan (Notre Dame, 9:17.5), (8) Tabitha Gaglianese (Canastota, 9:32.6), (9) Kate Freeman (Notre Dame, 8:48.6), (10) Beverly Dicocco (Canastota, 10:02), (11) Heather Reed (Canastota, 10:24.3) ... Amy Libby (Tully) was the Class C-2 pentathlon winner ... I have posted three steeplechase photos.

CNS Co-Ed Invitational (Sat. May 19, 2001)
A beautiful sunny day (temperatures mid-60s to low 70s) was on hand to warm athletes and fans at the Cicero-North Syracuse Invitational held at new The Richard J. Nastasi Track Facility ... this facility is another outstanding facility in central New York.  The stadium seating-press box part is still under construction ... when finished, it will be similar to Rome Free's, but larger (locker rooms, concessions, etc) with partial glass-enclosures.

Leone Timing & Results Services provided Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) for the races ... complete meet results are posted at their web-site.  I have posted some photos of the meet.  David Cook (Auburn) was an impressive winner of the boys 1600m race ... Cook lead nearly the entire race (splits: 400m - 66.2, 800m - 2:17.1) to win easily in 4:36.4 ... Ryan Morris (Proctor, 4:46.5) and Larry Petry (Corcoran, 4:46.57) finished 2nd and 3rd.  8th-grader Nicole Lister (South Jefferson) was an easy winner in the girls 1500m (4:54.75; splits: 400m - 73.7, 800m - 2:35.5) ... Taryn Menard (CNS, 5:00.38) and Melissa Lister (South Jefferson, 5:03.62) finished a very good 2nd and 3rd. In the girls 3000m race, Crystal Cooper (Henn) stalked pace-setter Marie Parks (CNS) before sprinting in victory in the stretch (11:00.1) ... Parks finished 2nd in an excellent effort (11:01.94). Amanda Lalley (Central Square) lowered her seasonal best in winning the girls 800m race (2:24.08).

Notes May 14:  At the St. Lawrence Invitational on May 12, Lauren Moser (Beaver River) won the 2000m Steeplechase (7:57.1) and Julie Emery (Beaver River) won the 3000m (10:53.9) ... at the Groton Invitational, Molly Huddle (Elmira Notre Dame) ran seasonal bests in both the 1500m (4:39.4) and 3000m (9:48.7).

Canastota Classic (Fri. May 11, 2001)
A very manageable field of ten boys & girls teams competed at Canastota's excellent new track & field facility ... the weather started out hot and muggy, but conditions improved as clouds and darkness came later in the meet.  Team scores are included with the complete results (top 6 each event) courtesy Coach Andy Pino ... Canastota won the Girls team score (169.5) over Tully (127.5) while Little Falls won the Boys team score (101) over Canastota (86).  I have posted some partial results with a few descriptions & splits off the Results page ... I have also posted some photos of the meet.

This was my first opportunity to watch Brian Mosher (Little Falls) for a full meet, and I was very impressed. Brian won the 100m (11.3), 200m (23.0), triple jump (42' 8") and anchored Little Falls 4x400m relay team to victory (400m split was an outstanding 50.7, and he did it on his own with a big lead and no pressure from any competitor). Lauren Noble (Little Falls) was a duel winner in the girls steeplechase (7:48.6 ... her first ever) and 1500m race (5:03.6). Canastota's Cassidy Mariano was a duel winner in her specialties, shot put (36' 0.5") and discus (101' 9"). Jamie Clinton (Indian River) won the girls 200m (27.4) and 400m (62.5).  Ricardo Merced (Indian River) won the boys 110m hurdles (16.5) and 400m hurdles (61.4).  Jackie Cianfarano (Hannibal) was an impressive winner in her first ever pentathlon (2420 points ... 800m time of 2:33, also her first ever).  Freshman Jessica Portmess (Tully) is showing continual improvement by winning the 400m Hurdles (68.1), 2nd in the steeplechase (7:49.0) and anchoring Tully's 4x400m relay team (split of 62.2).

Rome Girls Invitational at RFA (Sat. May 5, 2001)
About 24 girls teams came to Rome Free Academy to compete in a Saturday afternoon invitational (sunny and breezy; temperatures in mid-50s to low 60s). A few athletes were absent due to morning SAT tests (or left early for prom engagements), but an excellent group of athletes were on-hand to compete.  I have posted some partial results with a few descriptions & splits off the Results page ... Liverpool's excellent team depth allowed them to win the team score (90 points) over FM (67 points) ... I have posted some photos of the meet.

The Fayetteville-Manlius trio of Heather Stevens, Laurel Burdick and Lauren Heron were once again outstanding. Stevens won the 200m (25.2), 400m (56.6) and anchored FM's winning 4x400m relay team (split - 62.3 eased up).  Burdick ran an excellent 3000m (10:04.1 - 6 seconds faster than her previous seasonal best) and ran a 2:24.8 split on FM's winning 4x800m relay team (team time of 9:54.9).  Heron ran relay splits of 2:21.4 (4x800m) and 63.1 (4x400m) and won the open 800m (2:23.6) ... she looked very good during both 800m runs. Ricshara Knight (Henniger) was a duel winner in the high jump (5' 1") and 100m hurdles (15.7).

CBA Invitational at CBA (Fri. May 4, 2001)
Thirteen teams boys & girls competed on a very warm and sometimes breezy Friday afternoon and evening.  Team scores were not recorded by meet officials. Some very good race times were recorded by the athletes.  I have posted some partial results with a few race splits off the Results page ... Full results are now posted (courtesy Buddy Wleklinski at CBA).

The first girl's race of the day was the 4x800m relay ... Skaneateles won in an excellent time of 9:45.0 with the following splits: Lia Cross (2:23.3), Simone Bras (2:29.9), Irena McQuarrie (2:28.2) and Vanessa Everding (2:23.5).  The Tully girls were a very good second with a time of 10:00.7 ... splits: Lauren Silvernail (2:34.9), Caitlin Reed (2:29.2), Jessica Portmess (2:25.7) and Heather Roberts (2:31.4) ... this was only the second time Lauren Silvernail has run the 800m, and she trimmed 10 seconds off her time from last week's experiment ... she is replacing senior Katie Turner who is no longer running track (concentrating on soccer).  Lia Cross came back and won the open 800m (2:23.9) ... so twice on the same day she was at or near her 800m PR. Jessica Portmess returned to win the 400m hurdles (69.2) and run a 64.4 split in Tully's winning 4x400m relay team (4:24.1) ... she ran  68.2 (400H) earlier in the week. Tully's Laurie Fraser won the Girls Field MVP award ... Laurie won both the long jump (15' 2") and triple jump (33' 1").

I did not take any photos of this meet ... first, I forgot to bring floppy disks for my digital camera and second, it was my turn for timing duty at the finish line.  The meet ran smoothly and on time thanks to CBA officials and volunteers, Official Starter Bill Townsend and Finish Line Official Rick Lavin.

Canastota Co-Ed Relays at Canastota (April 28, 2001)
Canastota's new 8-lane polyurethane track was the site of the Canastota Co-Ed Relays ... this outstanding new facility will host the track & field events for the 2001 Empire State Games in July (in addition to many spring track meets). The track has a very fast running surface ... unfortunately, the weather (although sunny) was quite breezy and cold which slowed the race times.  This was a relay meet with trophies for Girls team, Boys team and combined Girls & Boys. Complete team scoring has been posted by Coach Pino at the Canastota Girls web-site at:
http://www.eteamz.com/canastotaladyraiders/  ... individual results are also be posted here. Brief team results are: Girls: (1) Canastota 101.3, (2) South Jefferson 75, (3) Tully 66.3 ... Boys: (1) South Lewis 99.5, (2) Adirondack 85, (3) Camden 75.5, (4) Westhill 63, (5) Tully 61 ... Combined: (1) Canastota 154.8, (2) Tully 127.3 ... I have posted some meet photos.

I am posting selected individual results and comments on a separate page linked to my Results Page. The Tully coaches are very proud of the Tully girls and boys performances ... Tully competed at the Phoenix Relays the previous night (got back about 9:45pm) and boarded the bus at 8:00am the next morning for Canastota ... many athletes competed in a full series of events at both meets and did very well (fortunately, Coach Franklin was unable to find another meet for Sunday).

Once again, I was very impressed by the Lister sisters from South Jefferson (Melissa, Jessica and Nicole). For example, Jessica ran a 68.0 400m hurdles and a 62.4 400m split in the DMR ... she has also pole vaulted 8' this season ... Melissa ran a 4:02.9 1200m split in the DMR and Nicole ran a 5:33.0 1600m split in the DMR (very comfortably).

Penn Relays (April 26) ... Congratulations to Jackie Kosakowski (Sauquoit Valley) who finished 9th in the Girl's Open High School 3000m ... her time was an excellent10:15.60 which I believe is her PR.  In the Girls 4x800m relay, Lansing High (section 4, class C) ran a very good 9:39.39 ... Pearl River (runner-up to Skaneateles in the State X-C Championships) ran 9:35.33 ... Bronxville (State Class D X-C Champions) finished 6th the Girls DMR (12:13.99) with Catha Mullen running a 4:57.6 1600m anchor.

Lansing Invitational at Lansing High [Sec 4] (April 21, 2001)
Lansing High School (in Section 4) hosted 14 boys & girls teams in their 3rd annual spring invitational ... Lansing coaches and officials ran a very smooth and well-organized meet!!  The weather was overcast and a little breezy with temperatures generally in the low to mid 50s.  Tully and Cato-Meridian were the only Section 3 teams that competed.  Lansing Coach Eade will be sending full meet results to ArmoryTrack, so I will note only partial results here ... I have also posted some meet photos.

Girls: team results - [1] Lansing (168), [2] Trumansburg (79), [3] Cato (72), and [4] Tully (69).  The individual star of the meet was junior Molly Huddle of Elmira Notre Dame ... Molly easily won the 1500m (4:41.4 ... 800m split 2:29.5) and 3000m (9:50.8) ... in the 3000m, Molly ran the opening 1500m in 4:59 and the back 1500m in a remarkable 4:51.8 ... she then ran a 63.0 split in the 4x400m relay a few minutes later! ... we haven't seen her in cross country because Elmira ND doesn't have an X-C team, which I hope gets corrected because Molly is really, really good.  Kim Bratt (Cato) was an excellent double winner in both the ShotPut (33' 0") and Discus (116' 9" - new stadium record).

Carrie Richards (Lansing) set a stadium 800m record of 2:26.5 and finished 2nd in the 1500m (5:06.6) ... Lansing's excellent 4x800m relay team (Maria Keating, Lindsay Warren, Melissa Usack, and Carrie Richards) was an easy winner in 10:11.3. Melissa Sweazy (Lansing won the 100HH (17.0) ... freshman Melissa Usack (Lansing) won the 400m (61.4) - she is also a very good X-C runner. Newark Invitational at Newark High [Sec 5] (April 19, 2001)
Newark High School (in Section 5) hosted the "Spring Break-Out" Invitational ... 38 schools came to compete ... only three Section 3 schools attended (Tully, Solvay, CBA).  The meet started at 10:30am and did not end until nearly 8pm.  The weather was fortunately sunny all day; temperatures were cool (ranging from high 30s in the morning to nearly 50 in the afternoon) ... a light 5-10 mile/hour wind was a direct headwind for the sprint events.  Meet officials did not tabulate team scores ... only individual awards were presented.

I have posted partial Newark Meet Results on the Results Page ... the only Section 3 athlete to win an event (that I am aware of) was Paul Zalewski (Solvay) who won the boys 400m in 52.5.  In the girls distance events, Amber Dadzweit (Honeoye Falls-Lima) won both the 1500m (5:05.4) and 3000m (11:10.5) ... Amber was the top runner on the Honeoye Falls-Lima X-C team that won the State Class B title in 2000.  Another top Section 5 X-C runner, Sarah Hildebrand (HAC), finished a close 2nd in the 400m (61.5) ... Sarah was the State Class D X-C champion in 1999.

New York-Penn Invitational at Windsor High (April 7, 2001)
Windsor High School (in Section 4) hosted one the first outdoor track & field invites to be attended by a Section 3 team. Of the 20 to 25 boys and girls teams in attendance, the Tully girls were the only Section 3 team present  ... however, nearly half of the regular Tully team was absent due to conflicts with college entrance exams (ACTs) and a previously scheduled chorus trip. The Tully boys team skipped this invitational due to the conflicts and a prior commitment by Coach Paccia. Most of the teams attending were Section 4 teams and teams from nearby Pennsylvania (primarily smaller schools).  The weather was cold (temperatures in the low to mid 40s) and a chilly breeze made it feel even colder ... however, Windsor's new synthetic track is excellent (should yield some fast times in warm weather).

Since this meet has limited interest in Section 3, I will briefly note performances by the Tully girls. However, one notable boy's performance was turned in by Windsor's Mark Rusin in the 1600m (4:33) ... an excellent time for the cold and breezy conditions ... Rusin also won the 3200m (10:14.3) and 800m (2:03.2) ... at the State X-C Meet in November, Rusin finished 20th overall in Class B.  In the Girls team scores, Tully finished 3rd (58 points) to Lansing (93) and Wyalusing (61.5).

Here are some Tully girl performances ... I stayed for about two-thirds of the meet before leaving (I will update with additional times as forwarded from Coach Franklin): freshman Jessica Portmess won the 2000m  steeplechase (8:07.86) and was 4th in 400m hurdles (72.47) ... freshman sprinter Liz Jones had an excellent day finishing 2nd in 100m (13.14 ... 13.08 in semi), 2nd in the 200m (27.36), and long jumping 13' 6" ... Brianna Seeley steeplchase (4th, 8:51.7) ... 4x100m Relay (54.9 in semi; Kinne, Stidd, Silvernail, Jones) ... Becca McBlane 100HH (19.9), 400mH (80.1) ... Jessica Kinne 100m (14.08) ... Lauren Silvernail 100m (14.04) ... Heather Roberts  finished 2nd in both the 1500m ( 5:11.3) and 3000m (11:43.7) ... Emily Schmidt 1500m (5:44.6) ... RJ Stidd 400m (67.7), SP (25' 11") ...
