Update (June 16) ... USATF Metroplitan Association Junior Olympics Qualifying Meet (June 8) ... The results have been posted at:

http://www.mactrack.org/News-Results_files/JOQul.html ... The meet did NOT have a wind gauge ... According to Larry Byrne's criteria for a State Record, "In the 100, 200, 100H, Long Jump and Triple Jumps, ONLY performances made within allowable wind assistance (2.0 meters/second or 4.473 miles/hour) are accepted" as State Records ... Therefore, Whitney Fountain's mark of 20-11.25 will NOT be considered the State Record ... I have left it on the Class Record Page with caveat.

USATF Metroplitan Association Junior Olympics Qualifying Meet (June 8) ...  Whitney Fountain (a sophomore at Christopher Columbus HS of the PSAL) set a new overall (all grade) of 6.38 meters (20-11.25)  shortly after Jen Clayton jumped 20-4.5 (see article below) ... At the time of this note, the official results have not been posted on-line, but will likely be posted at Metropolitan USATF web-site (http://www.mactrack.org).

USATF Metroplitan Association Junior Olympics Qualifying Meet (June 8) ...  From the Journal News ... Suffern sophomore Jen Clayton did it again ... Clayton broke the Rockland County, Section I, and New York state sophomore class long jump records yesterday, jumping 20 feet 4 1/2 inches at the USATF Metroplitan Association Junior Olympics Qualifying Meet at Monsignor Farrell High School in Staten Island ... Clayton eclipsed the former Rockland County record of Ramapo's Kim McDole (19-9 1/2 ), set in 1983, the old Section I standard, set in 1986 by Newburgh's Chinque Monk (19-11), and the state sophomore class record of Uniondale's Keyon Soley (20-2 1/2 ) ... Clayton had the best jump in the nation during the indoor season at 20 1/4 . The jump of 20-4 1/2 is tied for the second-best outdoor mark in the country, behind senior Vashti Thomas, of California, who jumped 20-5.

Bemus Invitational (May 8, 2008 at Greenwich HS) ... (from the Glens Falls Post-Star)

Sarah Palmer (Schuylerville) tied the NY State Freshmen High Jump Record at 5-8

Dual Meet - Saratoga Girls (May 7, 2008) ... (from the Schenectady Daily Gazette)

Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs) ran a season-leading 3000 meters in a dual meet with Ballston Spa and Averill Park ... Hannah's time was a quick 9:41.0 ... only 13 girls in NY State history have run faster.

Dual Meet - Fayetteville Manlius (April 23, 2008) ...

The FM vs Auburn dual meet was abbreviated due to thunder & lightning (and not re-started by agreement among coaches) ... Two very good performances were recorded before the meet was terminated ... freshman Courtney Chapman (FM) set a PR in the 1500m of 4:43.0 ... and sophomore Alex Hatz (FM) set a two second PR of 4:18.7 in the 1600m ... both runners ran in flats (not spikes)!

For comparison purposes ... Not certain, but I believe Lopez Lomong (Tully) has the fastest sophomore 1600m outdoor time by any Section 3 runner ... Lomong ran 4:18.58 at the NY State Meet (and that was a 9 second PR for  Lopez at that time) ... Tom Gruenewald's fastest sophomore 1600m time (according to my database records) was a 4:21.0 relay split, and then a 4:25.74 open time at sectionals ... Therefore, Alex Hatz's time of 4:18.7 in a dual meet (and a solo effort at that) is really special ... The NY State sophomore record for the mile is 4:13.69 (Brian Rhodes-Devey) and the 1600m record is 4:11.8 (John Trautmann).

Penn Relays (April 24, 2008) ... [results from the PennRelays.com]

The NY State Girl distance runners ran some very impressive times on Thursday at the nationally regarded Penn Relays ... Four runners from Burnt Hills competed in the 1 Mile and 3000 Meter Championship races and demonstrated why they might challenge Fayetteville-Manlius for the top spot nationally in cross country next fall...
