 Brooks XC Championship Speed Rating Preview 2025

 

The Girls and Boys Tables below include:

  • A List of all Entries from the Brooks XC website ( https://www.soundrunning.run/xcchamps )
  • Runners are ranked by Highest Speed Rating this season ... This is like a betting Morning-Line
  • All available seasonal Speed Ratings of each runner are posted (Note - 1 speed rating point = 3 seconds)

Interesting Note:

  • Five Girls enter this year's race with an individual speed rating of 160+ ... This is most I have ever seen at the 160+ level entering the Foot Locker National race ... But lack of available race results from the earlier years (1980s through some of the 1990s) has limited my search capabilities.
  • The previous high of 4 Girls at 160+ entering the race occurred in 2001 ... That was the race won by Amber Trotter with the highest-ever individual speed rating for a girl (180).
  • Entering the race the 4 girls and their speed ratings were - Amber Trotter (mid 160s to 170), Erika Odlaug (low to mid 160s), Natasha Roetter (low to mid 160s) and Molly Huddle (160).
  • Erika Odlaug was the Illinois State Champ ... The Illinois girls were still running 2.5 mile races and Erika Odlaug had already broken the Detweiller Park record by 35 seconds and broke it by an additional 5 seconds in winning the State Meet by 45 seconds (13:25).
  • Natasha Roetter was a pre-season favorite to win Foot Locker 2001 (she was 4th at Foot Locker 2000) ... she won Foot Locker Northeast at Van Cortlandt Park (162 speed rating) beating Molly Huddle (158 speed rating) ... Natasha Roetter won her Massachusetts State Meet race by 46 seconds.
  •  Molly Huddle is one of my favorite NY high school runners ... A portion of her high school running career is summarized at: http://www.tullyrunners.com/articles/LookBackMollyHuddle.htm ... She did not start running XC until her senior year ... She posted a 160 speed rating the the Section 4 NY State Meet Qualifier ... She finished 4th at Foot Locker Nationals (162 speed rating) ... Molly was an outstanding Pro and College runner.
  •  Molly Huddle was a consistent XC runner and finished 4th at Foot Locker Nationals 2001 ... and the gap back to 5th place was 15 seconds ... Erika Odlaug and Natasha Roetter finished 2nd and 3rd respectively at Foot Locker Nationals 14-15 seconds ahead of Molly Huddle.
  • Amber Trotter beat Erika Odlaug and Natasha Roetter by 40 and 41 seconds at Foot Locker Nationals 2001 ... Speed Ratings measure the relative time differences between individual runners and groups of runners of known speed and NOT the relative speed against any XC course.
  • Amber Trotter's 180 speed rating really did happen.
