Note of Interest ... Tom Gruenewald (FM) did not compete in the Section 3 State Qualifier ... He had been sick and was not at full strength ... Coach Bill Aris thought it was in Tom's best interest to bypass the State Qualifier and State Meet ... Originally it was hoped that Tom would compete at the State Meet in the 1600m (and go head-to-head with runners such as Steve Murdock) or maybe the 1000 meters (the 3200m was not being considered for the indoor State Meet).

 

3200 Meters ... winner AJ Corcoran (Westhill, 9:39.59) followed the leaders for the opening 1600 meters (the leader was primarily Mike Heymann (Tully)) ... Corcoran then moved to the lead and was followed by Chris Mason (Auburn, 2nd, 9:47.14) ... Mitch Miller (M-E, 3rd in the photo above) finished 3rd (9:49.58), but was DQed for stepping inside the white line three times.
