Tully Runners - Section 3 Individual Girls 2000 Pre-Season Rankings

Here are my Pre-Season Rankings for Section 3 girls. You can rank individuals by (1) how good they have been, (2) how good they are now, or (3) how good they might be in the future. My list is a combination ... however, I think performance at the time of the Sectional Championships is most important. Please remember ... this list is just for fun ... my purpose in making this list is to identify some top runners in Section 3 and provide a little information about what they have done. Consider it "seeding" a race ... the athletes must still compete to determine the winners ... except, I don't need to believe the seed times submitted by coaches.

I did some data merging from last year's Sectionals (plus States, Federation, and OHSL where possible) ... I also ran various computer simulations. But remember, last year's data is exactly that ... it's last year's data! I used them as a guide only ... I let my own biases and opinions make the final ranking ... I also considered some results from spring track.

This list only includes varsity XC runners from last year ... I did not include junior high runners or runners who will be running XC for the first time (If I did, I would be adding some runners from Beaver River and Tully (Jessica Portmess) ... but I don't know enough about other schools to be fair). Talented new varsity XC runners will become apparent and ranked when the 2000 season starts and progresses (and runners in this list will have to prove themselves).

Here's the 1999 performance data from my database. The number in parentheses following the name is their school grade during the 1999 XC season. The listed data in order are the race date, race name, placing, actual race time, and speed rating (standardized time rating; higher is faster). Note: I do not have complete results for each runner ... what you see is the data I have.

**In the OHSL race, Tracey took a wrong turn and
  added about 30 sec to her listed time (speed
  rating would be about 138).
**Tracey may be running an abbreviated invitational
  schedule this year due to a stress fracture injury
  from last spring ... section 3 runners are required
  to run 6 races before competing in sectionals ...
  four of Tracey's races will be duel meets.

** during spring track, Heather showed more sprinting
   speed than we thought she had (400m - 65.5), also
   a personal best for 800m (2:27) ... she's better at
   XC, so her improved foot speed may help.

  Games (2:21.63 in semis and 2:21.36 in finals).
  I've watched her run a lot because she's in Tully's
