NOTE about the Speed Ratings ... I was informed that errors exist in the results and timing (primarily timing errors in the Boy's results that have been fixed as much as possible) ... When I first evaluated the results, I found them to be inconsistent with the majority of results available for the 4K course at VCP ... In general, the overall times were too fast from top to bottom.
The girl's race was especially fast ... So for
both the Boy's and Girl's races, I pretended the VCP 4K did not exist (I
wish
),
and rated the races as if they were run on some unknown 4K course) ... I
statistically fitted the races based strictly on available ratings for
the individual runners ... The fit required scaling for Boys and Girls
... I gave the runners the benefit-of-doubt, and fit the ratings at the
high-end giving credit for improvement.
Personally, I do not like 4K results at this point in the season (so I tend to ignore them as much as possible) ... The NY State and Federation Meets are contested on 5K courses ... Results from sectionals races are 5K (or 3-miles), and I find those results much more beneficial at judging teams for States and Feds ... I wish the 5K course at VCP was used more frequently for high school races, especially in mid-to-late season.
