Chenango Valley State Park XC Course - Some Photos

[Chenango Valley XC Course Map] ... Updated XC Map

The bulk of the XC course is on the Chenango Valley State Park Golf Course ... I visited the golf course for a brief look ... the golf course is very scenic ... it has many small rolling hills and several significant elevation changes ... Below are a few photos that show what parts of the XC course (and golf course) look like ... [New XC Course Map Link]

Impressions ... The Section 4 coordinators have selected a very good course for the runners ... I can see why many Section 4 coaches like this course ... Although the course is "re-designed" (compared to the Section 4 Championship course), course changes are minor (the old finish line was in between the club house and starting-line and it came at a slightly different angle) ... The Chenango Valley State Park XC course should be a very fair test for the runners.

At the Start ... looking from the 1st Tee to the 1st Green (small flag visible) ... very slightly rolls uphill then down ... distance to flag is about 290-300 yards ... Note - most flags on the greens did not have numbers, so parts of the course confused me.

Looking from the 2nd green back towards to 2nd Tee ...

After rounding the 2nd Green, runners go along the woods on right side and down the 10th fairway which is shown

The steepness of this uphill section is not truly shown by the photo ... it is much steeper than this photo makes it appear ... on the XC course map, this "uphill" shown near the 8th Green (it's about 2500m into the race) ... it is the first of two significant uphills (the second, and perhaps most demanding, is just past the "Tow Path" section of the course) ... the "pond" is visible on the left-side of the photo ... Note: the elevation change from the bottom to the top of the hill is 60 feet.

This is a section of the "Tow Path" ... it is the only part of the XC course that is not on the golf course ... it's basically a dirt/gravel road.
