| Pre-Race Analysis:
With very limited time, I was only able able to do a quick prediction ... Saratoga
is the over-whelming favorite (which was already known) ... I wanted to
see how CNS rated against Saratoga (and the other Class A teams)
and I wanted to see the overall speed ratings for Saratoga
(incredibly impressive) ... CNS is definitely capable of finishing 2nd,
but there are some other talented teams running (Warwick, Penfield,
Ithaca).
The individual Class A race is a good match-up between Nicole Blood (Saratoga) and Laurel Burdick (FM) ... Nicole beat Laurel at the Baldwinsville Invitational and Laurel beat Nicole at Manhattan ... but there is one other runner who may be competitive ... senior Kristen Coon (Webster, Section 5) is running XC for the first time (she decided to give up other fall sports) ... last summer, Kristen won the Empire States Games 1500 meter race (4:45) and has been improving at XC all season ... her speed rating for the Section 5 Championships was 147 (Burdick and Blood typically have ratings of 150-155 ... and one point is only 3 seconds) ... interestingly, Molly Huddle (Elmira Notre Dame, Class D) is also a senior and running XC for the first time and is currently the top rated girl in NY (speed ratings typically 155-160). |
